By finishing 2nd at the Tour Championship presented by Coca Cola, Tiger Woods slightly increased his lead on the final GRI Differential Adjusted Scoring Average (DIF) of the season. Woods finished the 2005 campaign with DIF adjusted scoring average of 68.82, .43 ahead of #2 Vijay Singh who sports a DIF adjusted scoring average of 69.26.

Only 2 players, Woods at -2.68 and Singh at -2.24 finished the 2005 season with scoring differentials better than -2. The differential indicates that those two players averaged at least 2 strokes per round better than the average player on a round by round basis. Another 15 players average better than 1 stroke per round better than the average player.

Of the 208 players who played the minimum of 15 stroke-play events, David Duval ranked last with a scoring average of 75.66, 4.16 strokes per round above the average players score. Duval's 2005 scoring average was 1.79 strokes per round higher than #207, John Maginnis.

The GRI Differential Adjusted Scoring Average Index is calculated by comparing a player's actual score against the field scoring average on a round-by-round basis. A complete description of the calculation methods along with comparisons to the PGA Tour's method of calculating its adjusted scoring average can be found here.
