Vijay Singh Wins GRI May Player of the Month #2 Kenny Perry Misses Cut at FedEx St. Jude to Give Singh the Title Ted Purdy Drops to #3 Complete Standings Through the FedEx St. Jude Classic in PDF Format
Singh earned 355.05 GRI ranking points to lead the May race, 84 more than Colonial champion, Kenny Perry's 270.80 points. May was the second time this season Singh led a monthly race in points, yet this marks his first time to win Player of the Month. Singh led Fred Funk in the March GRI point total, but was placed 2nd due to the fact that he did not post a March victory. A victory within the period is a requirement to win player of the month. In addition Singh has been the most consistent performer of the season thus far, placing 2nd in January and April. Other May event winners include #3 Ted Purdy at the EDS Byron Nelson and #4 Tim Petrovic at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. #5 David Toms, #6 Billy Mayfair and #7 Chris DiMarco did not post May wins, but each earned enough points to finish ahead of #8 Justin Leonard, winner of the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Overview of GRI rated March events: Week 17 - Zurich Classic of New Orleans - Tim Petrovic earns 170.90 GRI ranking points for a playoff win while playoff victims James Driscoll earns 102.54 for 2nd. Chris DiMarco and Lucas Glover earned 76.91 points each for their 3rd place tie. Week 18 - Wachovia Championship - Vijay Singh reins over a top-notch field and prevails in a 3-way playoff. Week 19- EDS Byron Nelson Championship - Ted Purdy takes the win and earns 241.85 points. Week 20 - Bank of America Colonial - Kenny Perry took control of the event with a Friday 7-under 63 and never looked back in his 7-shot victory. Perry earns 237.70 for the win, while Billy Mayfair earned 142.62 for solo 2nd. Peter Lonard, David Toms and Joe Durant earned 95.08 points apiece for their 3rd place tie. Week 21 - FedEx St. Jude Classic - Justin Leonard notched his 2nd victory of the season, but it wasn't as easy as it could have been. Going into the final round with an 8-shot lead, Leonard held on to win by a single stroke to earn 164.15 points. David Toms earned 98.49 points for 2nd place while Fred Funk earned 82.08 for 3rd place.
Criteria for Golf Rank Index - Player of the Month The Golf Rank Index (GRI) - Player of the Month is determined by totaling GRI ranking points earned in all GRI ranked professional golf events scheduled within a months time frame. Events that bridge a months end or beginning of another, are generally placed in the month in which they end, but may be shifted to the prior month to balance the number of events to be ranked in each month. In the event of a first place tie, co-winners will be named. Eligibility - All players participating in GRI ranked events are eligible. They do not need to be a member of any professional golf tour. Must Win - To be named a player of the month, the player MUST have a win in a GRI ranked event in the month. Should any player without a win earn the highest number of GRI ranking points for a given month, the player will be placed behind the highest ranked player with a win. |
