Vijay Singh remains the "hottest" golfer in the GRI Heat Index. Singh took the lead on the Heat Index following his victory at the PGA Championship and has held it ever since. Since Singh's PGA victory he's been on fire, notching 5 more wins and a tie for 2nd in his only other start. His most recent conquest was a 5-shot win over Jesper Parnevik and Tommy Armour III at the Chrysler Championship.

Retief Goosen moved from 12th to 2nd on this weeks Heat Index thanks to his come from behind win at the 2004 season ending Tour Championship.

The GRI - Heat Index is designed to determine the hottest player in GRI ranked events on a percentage basis. The index is made up of a declining scale of GRI ranking points earned by a player over the last 20 GRI ranked event weeks divided by an events played factor.

The leader of the GRI Heat Index always owns a Heat Factor of 100%, and this week, while that honor goes to #1 Singh there are only 4 players with a Heat Factor within 50% of the lead. #2 Goosen stands at 58.89, #3 Ernie Els at 54.14% and #4 Tiger Woods at 52.79%.

Heating Up…

#1 - Vijay Singh - (100%) - In terms of the Heat Index, Singh is a virtual inferno. Not convinced… try 9 wins for the '04 campaign including 6 victories and a 2nd place finish in his last 8 starts.

Cooling Off…

#2 - #200 - Everybody Else - There are a host of players who may be playing pretty well over the last several months, but when compared to Singh, virtually all of them look like they're cooling off.

Criteria for Golf Rank Index - HEAT Index

The GRI - Heat Index is designed to determine the hottest player in GRI ranked events on a percentage basis. The index is made up of a declining scale of GRI ranking points earned by a player over the last 20 GRI ranked event weeks divided by an events played factor.

Points earned for the past two weeks receive 100% of their value, but their value declines 10% every two weeks thereafter. The result is that past performances are always declining in value, which means to maintain a top position, a player must play often and well to replace lost points.

The leader of the Heat Index is always designated as being "100% Hot". A player with a Heat Factor of 50.0 is considered to be 50%, or half as hot as the leader.

The 5-week +/- column highlights the gain or loss of a players "Heat Factor" for the previous 5 weeks.
