The race for the 2004 GRI Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) is over and Vijay Singh is the undisputed champion. The CPI race did not become official until Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els officially declined entry into the FUNAI Classic at the WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort in week 42. But for all intents and purposes, the race was over by mid-September as Singh was piling on the wins.

The CPI index is a total of GRI ranking points earned within a single season. Points are earned by order of finish and based on the strength of field in each event. Premier events such as the majors and events with strong fields are worth more ranking points than events with lesser fields.

The only mystery going into the season ending Tour Championship Presented by Coca-Cola was if Singh's final margin would top 1000 points. Although Singh fell short of the 1000-point goal, his final margins are impressive, never the less.

Singh finishes the season with 2770.95 GRI ranking points earned, more than 957 more than #2 Phil Mickelson, who finished with 1830.18 points. Ernie Els finished in the #3 position with 1750.01 while Tiger Woods final tally was 1697.36.
