• Appleby, Singh, Maruyama & Huston Score Wins

On the strength
of his win at the WGC-American Express coupled with a 2nd place tie at the
FUNAI Classic, Tiger Woods earns the Golf Rank Index - October Player of the
Month. The WGC-AMEX win was worth 247 ranking points to Woods and the high
finish at the FUNAI was worth another 90 ranking points giving Woods 337 points
for the month. Woods also becomes the only player to earn the GRI monthly honor twice in 2003... the first time in February.
Only 9 points behind Woods on the October index is Australian Stuart Appleby with 328 points. Appleby had a great month with a win in Las Vegas worth 184 ranking points and he also added a T-2 finish at the WGC-AMEX worth 123 ranking points.
In third place on the October list is Vijay Singh who won the final event of the month, the FUNAI Classic at Walt Disney World Resort. The Disney win helped Singh earn 303 ranking points for the month and moved him to the top of the GRI - Player of the Year standings for the second time this year... again surpassing Tiger Woods. Singh had lost the top spot earlier in the month when he finished 2nd to Woods at the WGC-AMEX .
Other event winners for the month included Shigeki Maruyama at the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro and John Huston at the Southern Farm Bureau Classic.
The GRI - October Player of the Month marks the end of the 10 monthly GRI honors. Next up is the GRI - Player of the Year which will conclude in two weeks with the season ending Tour Championship.

Criteria for Golf Rank Index - Player of the Month
The Golf Rank Index (GRI) - Player of the Month is determined by totaling GRI ranking points earned in all GRI ranked professional golf events scheduled within a months time frame. Events that bridge a months end or beginning of another, are generally placed in the month in which they end, but may be shifted to the prior month to balance the number of events to be ranked in each month. In the event of a first place tie, co-winners will be named.
Eligibility - All players participating in GRI ranked events are eligible. They do not need to be a member of any professional golf tour.
Must Win - To be named a player of the month, the player MUST have a win in a GRI ranked event in the month. Should any player without a win earn the highest number of GRI ranking points for a given month, they will be placed behind the highest ranked player with a win.
