With his win at the PGA, Tiger Woods has once again ascended to a dominating postion on the GRI Heat Index.

As the top player on the Heat Index, Woods is rated at the maximum of 100% while Adam Scott moves to #2 with a Heat index rating of 40.96%. followed closely by Jim Furyk at 40.16%

The GRI Heat Index is designed to determine the hottest player in GRI ranked events on a percentage basis. The index is made up of a declining scale of GRI ranking points earned by a player over the last 20 GRI ranked event weeks divided by an events played factor.

Heating Up…

#1 - Tiger Woods - (100%) - Despite missing the cut at the U.S. Open many folks failed to realize just how well Tiger has been playing this season. Now with 3 wins in a row including the British Open and PGA Championship everbody is back on board the Tiger bandwagon.

Cooling Off…

#7 - Phil Mickelson - (24.13%) - After his Masters win and through 71 holes of the U.S. Open, everyone thought that Mickelson had finally reached the pinnacle of the sport. However… a double-bogey on the final hole at the U.S. Open a T22 finish at the British and a T16 at the PGA has Mickelson falling down the list of the hottest players.

Everybody Else - Despite two wins this season, Stuart Appleby has not played consistently in his other events. Early season wins by David Toms, Chad Campbell, Rory Sabbatini, and Stephen Ames, have not materialized into extended winning streaks. To date, other big names such as Els and Goosen have yet to win while Vijay Singh has yet to consistently display his winning form of year's past. Geoff Ogilvy and Jim Furyk are two players that are notching a lot of top-10's, and even a big win here and there, yet can't seem to break through to the winners circle consistently.

Criteria for Golf Rank Index - HEAT Index

The GRI - Heat Index is designed to determine the hottest player in GRI ranked events on a percentage basis. The index is made up of a declining scale of GRI ranking points earned by a player over the last 20 GRI ranked event weeks divided by an events played factor.

Points earned for the current week receive 100% of their value, then decline 5% every week thereafter. The result is that past performances are always declining in value, which means to maintain a top position, a player must play often and well to replace lost points.

The leader of the Heat Index is always designated as being "100% Hot". A player with a Heat Factor of 50.0 is considered to be 50%, or half as hot as the leader.
