The 400 points Tiger Woods earned for his British Open victory, along with the points from his 2nd place finish at the Cialis Western Open were more than enough to win the GRI July 2006 GRI Player of the Month race. Woods will not play in the final July event in Milwaukee, however his current 280-point lead guarantees that he will finish the month as the leader.

Cialis Western Open winner, Trevor Immelman holds down the #2 spot with 249.81 points and British Open runner-up Chris DiMarco is #3 with 240 July points.

Overview of July GRI rated events:

Week 26 - Buick Championship - J.J. Henry claimed his first ever PGA win and earned 158.25 GRI points in the process. Hunter Mahan and Ryan Moore shared 2nd place and earned 87.04 points each.

Week 27 - Cialis Western Open - Trevor Immelman prevailed against an excellent field to claim his first PGA Tour win and earn 237.15 points. Tiger Woods and Mathew Goggin Tied for 2nd to earn 130.43 points apiece.

Week 28 - John Deere Classic - John Senden became the third straight first time PGA Tour winner and earned 117.25 points for his efforts. J.P. Hayes earned 70.35 points for 2nd place, while Alex Cejka and Heath Slocum earned 52.76 points each for their 3rd place tie.

Week 29 - British Open - Tiger Woods earned 400 points for his win at Hoylake. Chris DiMarco earned 240 points for his spirited challenge and eventual 2nd place finish. Ernie Els earned 200 points for 3rd place and Jim Furyk earned 160 points for 4th. Hideto Tanihara and Sergio Garcia earned 130 points apiece for their 5th place tie.

Week 29a - B.C. Open - John Rollins took advantage of the lack of top players at the event to knock down his first win since 2002. Rollins earned 100 points for the win followed by Bob May who earned 60 points for 2nd and Shigeki Maruyama who earned 50 points for 3rd.

Week 30 - U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee - A light field is expected to be on hand giving up and coming players a chance for a top finish. Expect the winner's share to be less than 150 points.

Criteria for Golf Rank Index - Player of the Month

The Golf Rank Index (GRI) - Player of the Month is determined by totaling GRI ranking points earned in all GRI ranked professional golf events scheduled within a months time frame. Events that bridge a months end or beginning of another, are generally placed in the month in which they end, but may be shifted to the prior month to balance the number of events to be ranked in each month. In the event of a first place tie, co-winners will be named.

Eligibility - All players participating in GRI ranked events are eligible. They do not need to be a member of any professional golf tour.

Must Win - To be named a player of the month, the player MUST have a win in a GRI ranked event in the month. Should any player without a win earn the highest number of GRI ranking points for a given month, the player will be placed behind the highest ranked player with a win.
