The GRI ranking points Chad Campbell earned for his victory at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic coupled with the points he earned for his T2 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, were more than enough to secure the January 2006 GRI Player of the Month.

Campbell, winless in 2005, was not eligible for the Mercedes Championship, but he made the most of his next two starts. Campbell earned 110.47 at the Sony and 192.75 points at the Hope to total 303.22 for the month. Campbell had a chance to add to his total at the Buick Invitational, but finished out of the top-25 and thus did not earn any GRI points for that effort.

#2 Stuart Appleby opened the season with his 3rd consecutive victory at the Mercedes Championship then followed it up with a T7 at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Appleby's finished January with 236.98 GRI ranking points.

Tiger Woods made only one start in January, yet made the most of it by winning the Buick Invitational in a playoff. Woods earned 230.70 points for the win to finish #3 in the January race.

David Toms finished #4 in January points with 225.74. Toms earned 200.85 of those points with a win at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Criteria for Golf Rank Index - Player of the Month

The Golf Rank Index (GRI) - Player of the Month is determined by totaling GRI ranking points earned in all GRI ranked professional golf events scheduled within a months time frame. Events that bridge a months end or beginning of another, are generally placed in the month in which they end, but may be shifted to the prior month to balance the number of events to be ranked in each month. In the event of a first place tie, co-winners will be named.

Eligibility - All players participating in GRI ranked events are eligible. They do not need to be a member of any professional golf tour.

Must Win - To be named a player of the month, the player MUST have a win in a GRI ranked event in the month. Should any player without a win earn the highest number of GRI ranking points for a given month, the player will be placed behind the highest ranked player with a win.
